Fira, Santorini
After 3 flights and about 24 hours of traveling, we made it to Santorini! Words really cannot describe what being here in person is actually like, after seeing so many photos and wanting to go for so long (but I will try). We stayed in the lovely Anteliz Suites. The private hotel villas are situated at the very top of Fira Town with a beautiful view of the volcano. We had such a comfortable room, we were actually able to sleep and fight off the jetlag well. We had a small pool on the terrace but unfortunately it was too cold to swim! It’s okay though because I would much rather be in Santorini during shoulder season. It is cool enough to walk around and there are less tourists. Even when the sun was out it was super hot even in 60 degree weather. We had a few cloudy days to be able to walk far, or we would walk in the evening.
Fira is beautiful and a great place to go out, but I have to say that I truly loved the neighboring towns of FiroStefani and Imerovigli. They are the highest peak and just a short walk from Fira. I loved the look and feel of the white washed buildings overlooking the cliffs. These towns are also a lot quieter with fewer tourists, and actually feel more luxurious. (most of the tourists are from the cruise ships that dock in Fira Town) The best restaurant of the trip we ate at was La Maison in Imerovigli. I would seriously come back to Santorini just to eat here again, it was that good! We also were lucky enough to see Santorini in a very green and blooming state because of so much rain, which is actually very rare for the island.
List of Restaurants and Bars We Went to:
Parea Restaurant- Our first restaurant we ate at after feeling jetlagged and off our flights! Great solid Greek food, we were also starving and eager to try our first bites of Greek Food!
Ampelos Restaurant and Wine Bar- One of the best meals of the trip! A highlight was the baked feta with honey and balsamic. There was also a small food tour group right next to us lead by a big Greek guy, so we knew we were in a good place!
Ouzeri- The best traditional Greek food we ate in Fira! Everything was just the best version of classic Greek cooking.
Naoussa- Another traditional Greek place, not our favorite but the Octopus was very good!
Cesare- We were in the mood to switch it up and do some Greek/Italian. Delicious pizza here!
PK Cocktail Bar- A beautiful bar overlooking the Caldera, the cocktails were delicious, I recommend the special Spritz.
Tropical Bar- A small cute but touristy bar with sweet drinks.
Casablanca Soul- A pretty open air bar/club with white linen decor.
Highlander- When you want a tourist trap/ Irish Bar with blasting old school songs. ( really actually enjoyed it here)
Assytirco- A cute little open air wine bar and cafe. We loved the wine flights and huge piece of Baklava. More Points for giving us free cheese with every glass of wine!
Mylos- A high end Greek Gastronomy restaurant in FiroStefani. Probably my second or third favorite of the trip. It was more experimental but equally delicious!
La Maison- Last but certainly not least! The best restaurant of our trip! This high end Greek restaurant is located in Imerovigli with seating looking out to the ocean. The service was incredible, they cater to you in every way. The food was high end but also approchable cusine.
? Bar/Restaurant in an Alley- We found this beautiful bar and restaurant where we had great drinks and the owner came up and spoke to us and offered us free drinks! We cannot remember the name but it was in an alleyway on Danezi M Street.
